Engine oil Castrol or Motorcraft
i use castrol 5w30 syntec edge. advanced full synthetic.
I use castrol syntech 10w40.
Anyway, my W8 has been fed only Castrol LL 2 & 3 (SLX, Professional Powerflow) & Shell Ultra Helix VX (Longlife 3 oil made for VW) . I don't know if that's the magic that has made my cam tensioners last this far, but I'm going to heed that mechanics advice in the future too.
I have always used castrol syntec in my gti, but GTX is usually what my audi gets.
Me neither, I use the 5W-40 Syntec also and although I have a 2.5, from the 10k - 20k change it only used about .8 qts. If it's 502.00 it's a quality oil, doesn't really matter what it says on the bottle.
i've found that syntec 5w40 lasts, i've used otehr brands on my mkIV 2.slow and had oil consumption issues in the summer, but when i used 5w40 syntec i had no issues with burning oil, and have yet to see any with my 2.0T which is at 17000 km now, so its still kinda early to tell anything
I use Castrol Syntec 5w40 502 here is the list of common oils for N.A.
I've kept using GTX in my Passat and just recently had warranty work done (cam adjusters, valve cover gaskets etc.)...dealer honored the warranty and I got no feedback that my engine was "sludged up due to non syn oil"..so I'm stick with it!
In any event, I switched to the Castrol Syntec 5w/40 on a free oil change given by my dealer at the 14,795 mile mark during an "oil consumption test". I'm happy to report that I have traveled exactly 6,000 miles om the Castrol 5w/40 and have not added any oil to my "R". Currently, I am down a half quart on the dipstick.
To that statement you should also add German made Castrol Syntec 0W-30, an oil that not only meets the 502.00 oil spec, but the far more stringent 503.01 spec as well.
