Engine oil Castrol or Shell
Just did a major service using castrol 10w40 Maganetec with new Iradium spark plugs etc. Car is super smooth & pulls strings & no overheating.
I'm using Rotella T6 5w40 in my car. For the money, it's one of the better buys for oil since it holds up so well. It's got good additives that don't shear down quickly, decent amounts of zinc and phosphorus, and it works in just about anything - cars, trucks, diesels, bikes with wet clutches, etc.
I recommend 5W40 Castrol Syntec! Here's why: Smaller numbers = thinner oil. The "W" means "Winter" - or the viscosity of the oil when the engine is cranking, and first warming up. The 5W oil is very thin when cold. The engine will crank faster, the pump primes better. The hydraulic lifters in your 16v will fill up and follow the camshaft better and with less noise. When you are at operating temperature, the 40 weight oil will give you the protection that a VW engine needs.
rotella t6 5w40 diesel oil. nothing else.
I use 5w-40 Castrol Syntec without any issues.
Edge worked great for me. Maybe the best oil on the market.
I use Rotella 5-w40. I've been using it for like 5 years in my 02 1.8t and haven't noticed any wear really at all. I drive pretty aggressive, redline 3+ times a day.
Just put mine in today at the owners manuals advice, 15,000 KM. Castrol 5w40
I prefer to use castrol gtx 20w-50 year round, but I'm being cheap lately. I've put over 120k on my 16v with this stuff so far
Dealer put Castrol SLX Professional LL03 5W30 in it.
