Engine oil Castrol or Total
Castrol Syntech or Mobil One in 5w30 for the Volvo and 10w30 for the Ford. Mainly because I'm a lazy bastard that hates doing oil changes and the stuff lasts twice as long as regular oil. That, and I've had cars run over 400k using them exclusively.
Castrol edge 5w30 in my Focus
Castrol Edge. My car is very specific about what grade the oil has to be and this seems to be the only one that matches OEM oil.
Just did a major service using castrol 10w40 Maganetec with new Iradium spark plugs etc. Car is super smooth & pulls strings & no overheating.
I recommend 5W40 Castrol Syntec! Here's why: Smaller numbers = thinner oil. The "W" means "Winter" - or the viscosity of the oil when the engine is cranking, and first warming up. The 5W oil is very thin when cold. The engine will crank faster, the pump primes better. The hydraulic lifters in your 16v will fill up and follow the camshaft better and with less noise. When you are at operating temperature, the 40 weight oil will give you the protection that a VW engine needs.
I use 5w-40 Castrol Syntec without any issues.
Edge worked great for me. Maybe the best oil on the market.
Just put mine in today at the owners manuals advice, 15,000 KM. Castrol 5w40
Total 5w40 took care of me to 8k with a 3071R. The oil is pretty decent stuff and not terribly expensive. I like their gear lube in my boxes. I run it in everything from my MKIV/B5 to my 07 Impreza 2.5i
I prefer to use castrol gtx 20w-50 year round, but I'm being cheap lately. I've put over 120k on my 16v with this stuff so far
