Engine oil Castrol or ZIC
i pay 8 bux a liter for Castrol TWS MotorSport 10w60 oil...so, that's like 42 bux (after tax) for 5 liters, then next change i'll pay like like 29ish for 4 liters...since i have a half liter or more leftover from the last change... then like 6 bux for OEM filter, drain plug and seal... so...48 bux/35 bux per change for me, just for oil & filter...
Surveys on several VW forums have Castrol 20w50 a clear winner for quality, price and availability, but other good brands like Valvoline, BP, Shell etc get honourable mentions too.
If you run it HARD than a 20/50 oil is good. I run castrol non synthetic, but I'm thinking of switching to Royal Purple. Still want to get more opinions before I do the change over but I heard good things about that brand.
I have decided to use Castrol GTX 5W-30.
For your hi-mileage IDI w/ 'consumption' fever, stick with the 15w-40, probably in a dino, and add a qt of synthetic same wieght same brand, at change You will get the lubricity of the snythetic for fraction of cost.
I'm currently using Castrol Syntec 5W-30.
my car seems to like castrol gtx 20 w 50 the best...i have tried them all...
My oil changes have been all at the dealer, at 15,000KM (about 9300 miles) intervals, Castrol Syntec.
Castrol Syntec 5W50 is what I use in my car, and it didn't burn any more oil or leak at all when I made the switch at around 123,000 miles... I change it every 4,500 miles or so..
I switched from valvoline 20w50 to castrol. No problems since. Before, my temp was going haywire. Castrol solved it for me.
