Engine oil LIQUI MOLY or Castrol
Castrol A747. The only failure I've ever had was down to incorrect assemble. Smells lovely too!
I have only used Lubromoly/Liquimoly 5w-30 Full synthetic with the Mos2 Additive. Molydenum sulfide from liquimoly and my car runs super quiet and idle very smooth. I change my oil every 2500 miles..no matter what. Oil pressure is very good, zero shavings in the oil between oil changes. Additionally, I use the liquimoly engine clean between changes and like I mentioned before the car runs superb...no complaints here.
I use Castrol Syntec 10w-40 in all of my VR6's and change it around 3000-4000 miles with oil filter (Meyle, Hengst or Topran) I use it in my MK4 and even in my old ass MK3 and never had any problems whatsoever. My MK3 VR6 that a sold a few months back, a.k.a. The Silver Bullet, has over 150K miles on the odometer and still counting and she runs like a beast. The lifters are ticking a bit loud but that's common for any high mileage VR6 engine.
Vw recommends Castrol I wouldn't use anything else
They were using the wrong oil- Shell 0-30, and it was clicking pretty loud when cold. I got the oil change kit from Duetche Auto and put in the Luqimoly. What a difference. I cant recommend it more. You will love it.
Castrol Syntec 5w40 is stout enough for the 10,000 mile oil change.
Personally, i like the Lubro Molly stuff the best. While not too relevant to the MKVI and the TSI engine, when I used it on my former MKV with the FSI engine, I definetly noticed a lot less oil residue on my tailpipes and the engine just felt better, smoother and quieter.
I've used the OE spec Castrol syntec 5w40 since I bought the car brand new. Do my own oil changes every 5k with the stuff and no issues.
I change every 5K with Liquimoli 5w-40... I'd use 5w-40 over 5w-30, especially if you're doing any kind of upgrade to performance. Car will run a heck of a lot better.. 5w-30 is to thin when working an engine as hard as most of us do.
For my 2.5 engine, with +100k miles and a turbo, ive been using liqui moly with great success. It meets the 502 requirements, and it yields great results.
