Engine oil Mobil or PENNZOIL
Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40 has a more stout additive package and has lower sulphated ash which means less intake valve buildup
Use good oil, Liqui-Moly 5W-40, or Mobil 1 0W-40 "European Car Formula".
I use extended performance full synthetic - mobil 1. No problems so far.
Currently running mobil 1 MXT4 in my 2002 vstrom 1000. Holy fuck is it overpriced, but it's cheap insurance. Zero oil consumption despite cruising the highways at 140-150 Kph, @6000rpm.
No oil consumption within a 10k kms interval. So far so good Driven hard for my first 5000 Km's then dumped the factory oil. Been using Mobil 1 0w40 as I have in my past two GTI's. Drove it hard and haven't let off since.
I run Pennzoil Platinum in mine (same engine) which is another popular oil. 5w-30 btw.
I've been using Mobil 1 5W30 since I bought this car. My car has been tuned to my K04 and fuel limits for years and it's heavily abused daily. At 60K I'm still rocking 180psi compression, no turbo issues or VVT issues. As long as you change your oil regularly you should be fine, just stick to synthetics.
I use Mobil1 5W-30 in my R53. Checked with my dealer + that's what they use also. Served my car + me well for 135k miles so far.
I use Castrol or Pennzoil most of the time (N/A engine or I'd use Rotella) haven't had any issues with it.
I have been driving for upwards of 50 years and have always had good luck with Pennzoil products. Pennzoil makes a 5W-40 full synthetic Platinum Euro which meets the VW 502 spec and has gotten good reviews from GTI owners.
