Engine oil Mobil or RAVENOL
My oil report on 0w30 mobil1 esp looked good. I'll keep using it. Mix of track and daily duty.
Seeing good results, lower heating, smoother functioning with Mobil Super Moto 15W-50 Synthetic Technology Engine Oil.
I was riding in the Himalayas where low-gear, high-acceleration could not be avoided and decided to try this. Noticed better performance, lower heating and decisively moved away from RE's semi-synthetic.
I wouldn't limit yourself to VW brand oil only if another "approved" oil is cheaper. VW has a document listing which oils meet their spec. I use the MOBIL 1 Esp x2 (it's on the list) since the 5 quart bottles are usually cheap from Walmart.com.
I’ve ran mobil1 5w30 for a few years now with oem filter on my 1990
I use 10w40 also from Mobil 1 high mileage. A lot of our engines will have a tick on start up or once hot, if so with your Motul, switch brands to another top tier on next oil change and see if your engine likes that brand more.
go for Ravenol VMO SAE 5W-40.
I have that engine in my car and I've been obsessed about finding the best lubricant from day 1 of purchase... it seems like in general most engines in the 2000-2014 era, but especially om642, like a thicker oil, 5w40-0w40, with ravenol vmo being the only oil in there that had incredibly low metals in it by far, even at a 10-15k km oil sampling.
I changed oil with 80% Mobil 1 high mileage and 20% Lucas high mileage oil stabilizer in it, did better than just Mobil 1 high mileage 5w20 alone in summer, (very hot temperature).
I wouldn't consider M1 4T to be the highest quality oil. It's a pretty standard Group III/IV synth blend with a motorcycle on the label.
I was planning to but returned it. It was listed as a GL4 oil on the website but when it arrived, there wasn’t a mention of the GL4 on the bottle. Had a look at a technical spec sheet of the product online and it isn’t a GL4 oil indeed. Ravenol is quality oil however
