I use 5w-40 Motul x clean gen 2 on my built wrx. Running 5w-40 is best for added protection from ethanol dilution overtime and for warmer climates as oil gets pretty hot.
motul 5w40 8100 is great
Have since switched to motul 5w-40. The extra protection.
I run 5w40 motul because of upgraded turbo and other fuel parts. Its been very solid. ????

However my "go to" oil in the last two oil changes was the Motul Specific 508 00 509 00 0W-20.
Last change , used Motul 8100 0W - 20 Full synthetic
Motul 8100 X Clean 5W30, used by reputable specialist Mini garages here in the UK and is in my 2018 JCW.
I have been running Motul 5w30 Xclean EFE and have used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum as well.
Re oil is shit it makes the engine feel like a generator.
