I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30. It’s hasn’t failed me yet and I’ve done multiple track days
Pennzoil ultra platinum 5w-30 in my 2016. Will use it in wife's 2025 when warranty is done.
Honestly, any brand should be okay as long as you change your oil every 5k miles. Personally I run Penz ultra plat. I never burn oil with it and my engine sounds quieter than it did w/ Mobil 1.
Put about 300K on two different M54's so far. Originally Mobil1/Castrol 0W30 (that was the original BMW recommendation in early 2000s), eventually switched to Pennzoil Euro 5W40 for oil leak reduction.
I switched to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum full synthetic made from natural gas. Oil consumption is 1/2qt in 5K.
I flip between Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and Motul depending on if I choose to order ahead of time or just do it when I feel like.
Pennzoil Platinum Ultra is also commonly used/recommended instead of the Motul and is cheaper.
I always use Penzoil Ultra Platinum and have never had an issue.
I’ve switched to Pennzoil and I’ve noticed I went from burning about ~1 quart between 5k mile changes to barely burning anything. It seems like my motor is a little happier with it based on it not making such a racket but that might just be confirmation bias
I have a slow oil leak (something like a quart every 1,500 miles). Dealer quoted just under $3,000 for the fix when it was 17 years old with 110,000 miles. I'll just buy the occasional quart of oil.
