Engine oil Total or Lucas
Used to work closely with Peugeot and talked to their technicians and customers. Their old Prince engine insists must use Total oil. Nasim (previous owner of Peugeot Malaysia) once used Petronas Syntium and they experienced knocking and oil leak. After using Total, it eliminates the problem entirely.
On the other side, cheaper oil and very good spec. overall i see in Total Ineo Long Life Xtra 0W20 in VW 509 specification area, which is also written in my service book for high efficiency oils.
I have been using the oil recommended by the owners manual (the Dutch one at least) for a couple of years now, no issues at all. I use Total Quartz 9000 5W-40.
My Miata has almost 300k on the original head gasket I started using the far right a few times ago and I don’t leak a lick of oil
I’m not going to argue with anyone about what it does but I’ve used Lucas for a long long time I have a 93 Chevy truck with 400k miles that I have never taken care of correctly I have run it out of oil overheated it overloaded it and abused and mistreated the engine in that truck and its still able to do any thing I need it to.
I use this on my 2003 Passat 1.8T probably every 2-3 oil changes. Motor has 269,000 miles and burns a smidgen of oil on startup. The Lucas seems to help a bit.
Used it for years in high mileage motors. 215,000 on a 1.8 turbo VW
used no oil between 5,000 mile changes.
Ok, so here’s my anecdote: a friend of mine had an old Ranger that had an oil pump failing. He didn’t want to pay me or anyone else to pull the engine and replace the pump so I suggested he just throw a bottle of this in there and see what happens.
Well, his oil light went off and oil pressure improved.
I like Liqui Moly in my 2011 Jetta tdi but been really impressed with how smooth my car is running on Total quartz and been using that the last few changes. Total Quartz = smooth
My mechanic added a bunch of Lucas to the oil, which he said might at least quiet it down, and it did. It's quieter now, but I can still hear it at idle.
