Engine oil VALVOLINE or AMSOIL
I’ve personally ran amsoil in all of my vehicles, and haven’t been disappointed
Ran fine when I got it but I switched to amsoil and it has changed the sound of cold starts. MUCH QUIETER!! and seems to have smoothed out the idle over time.
I'm using "Valvoline Modern Engine Oil" since they have patents and claim to have some chemistry there to keep the valve stems more carbon-free.
I run Amsoil 5w40 warmer temps and Ravenol 5w30 colder temps.
Stage 2+ 2016 wrx here, in my experience (with having run both full synthetic amzoil and motul) I can honestly say that while both are rated very good for the FA-20 I would lean toward the motul simply for responsiveness. The car just seems to respond better to that brand, 100% just off personal experience
Just change it.
I have a Yaris with 300,000 miles on it. All I use is conventional 5-30 Valvoline.
I always use VR1 (Valvoline) 20w50. Excellent oil. The car runs beautifully on it and has had no issues.
You can't go wrong with the Amsoil XL. I run OE 5w30, which offers plenty of protection for a stock engine. Unless your tolerances and clearances have changed, there is no reason you need 5w40. Modern synthetics, especially ones designed for the extra heat of a turbo, are outstanding oils.
I use the red bottle in mine. I've found that it leaks/burns the least.
I have the VR-1 race oil on my MR2. Apparently some people said it made my car spit flames.
