Ignition coil Bosch or Bremi
I replaced all coils with Bremi 20128 red tops and used liquid electric tape to reinsulate the exposed wire.
I just replaced coils with bosch, VW Ignition Coil Service Kit - Bremi 06E905115EBR2 , so far, works fine with no problem.
Replaced it with OEM Bremi coil (Made in Turkey), same as in car when new. Cost $110. with tax and shipping. Runs smoother than with the aftermarket.
In my experience the Bosch ones last 100k miles. I've sold and installed thousands and I'm not sure I've ever warrantied one.
Always go Bosch. 55 years of wrenching and have never had a Bosch part that wasn’t top quality.
I like the R8 coils because they're cheap. At $20 per Bosch coil, you can throw an extra in the trunk without breaking bank. I did mine when my factory bolt downs went bad.
I did Oem plugs and Bosch coils. No problems so far.
I have them with APR Stage 1. R8 coil packs are not really an upgrade that people make them out to be... red = more performance.... Sure they came out of a R8 and V8 Touareg "BAR" engine code... but the coils make enough current to get a spark. The spark plug does the rest, and the features of the spark plug help with getting the air-fuel mixture ignited and burned. Because of the popularity of the red coils, you can often get them cheaper. I think last time I paid about $100 for the Bosch red coils from ShopDap.com
I decided to order the OEM Bosch coil off of FCP Euro. Same issue about a 1/4inch too long. Being kind of annoyed and noticing that they're pretty much identical decided to pull the rubber boot off the old and swap it with the new one.
The car now runs a lot better, however, I think the slight difference in ignition coils is making the car run slightly choppy at high rpms
9-3’s eat coils; it’s a forever problem on my 9-3 that it seems like every 30k miles I’m spending $200 on new coil packs. It’s essentially routine maintenance. I ordered Bosch OEM coil packs off RockAuto and just now realized they have a warranty. I submitted a warranty claim and they sent me out brand new units. Wish I would have known this because it would have saved me lots of money.
