Ignition coil NGK or BERU
Had a fairly cheap set of NGK coils from rockauto, been running them for 3 years now without issues.
I have ngk coils in mine and they've been fine for 50k+ miles.
When I bought my 2008 VW Rabbit 2.5, it had 142K miles on it and I wanted to be sure I did a complete tune-up, not knowing its history. I bought the whole OEM unit which came with cover, gasket, bolts and PCV valve at a low price from Amazon. When I pulled the coils to replace the plugs, I saw that they were covered in oil from the leaking center section of the gasket, so I bought NGK coils to go with the NGK iridium plugs. When I pulled the plugs, I saw the tops were also covered in oil but the working end of the plugs were fine (Bosch plugs and the original coils). Replacing everything was easy and I torqued everything correctly. No more leaks and the car performs wonderfully on 87 octane.
I recently bought a BERU.
I personally dislike HUCO brand which it had, I replaced mine with a BERU coil, still going strong since '97.
My coil is a Beru and pretty much brand new.
many thanks to this diy i just successfully replaced my unbranded made in italy POS coil with a brand new one from beru. gosh, as soon as i put that in and started the car it didnt start so rough. what a small but significant change, kudos and thanks!
Has anyone ever experienced an odd electrical type humming sound eminating from the front of the dash after putting in a new ignition coil??? I put in a Beru Coil and I could swear I now hear a faint hum that wasn't there prior to installing the new one. It kind of sounds like the radio with the sound way low when it picks up engine frequencies (but I know it's not that). It definitely sounds electrical and not mechanical and I've noticed the hum increases in frequency when I increase the rpm's. Do coils even make any noise??? Thanks.
BERU Ignition coils! ALWAYS USIN' GERMAN AUTO PARTS! Old coils out. Here's the problem - that coil on the right's connector broke off! Piece of crap!
Bought new coil. Lucky to get good German Beru unit for little over $90...last of luck. Put in new coil, still no spark.
