Oil filter AMSOIL or OEM Volkswagen
I have been running the larger filter for about 10,000 miles now- haven't had a bypass valve issue. I am using the same filter as a an audi/VW V6 30 valve engine. I do not know if that is the same as the diesel one though But- 62,000 miles so far, no valve lifter noise yet!
i have 107000 on my wolfie now amsoil 10-30 and their filter cleans better than stockers i change at 10000 miles no problem change sooner for short trips especially in winter redline mt 90 in tranny
fellas, don't forget that there is a new bigger 1.8T filter issued by VW. I got one for my 2.0 and this thing is huge. I assume it will filter the same but it will flow better as the filtering components are much bigger. Also the new filters will retain more oil in the system which is a good thing!
Using Amsoil 10-40 and an Amsoil filter, Blackstone said the oil looked clean and ready to keep going at 5.5k miles. Changed the filter and added a quart to replace what was lost to the test and filter change, and kept running it. They were still happy with the results that came at 10k miles. This test was on a a 93 octane APR 1.8T that's run hard constantly.
The VW filter from the dealer was beefy. I like it.
I prefer Amsoil and their filter...I drive about 187 miles per day when training and the right oil makes all the difference. I tried Mobile 1 the first time but think Amsoil works better.
The VW filter is a good quality filter.
I have seen allot of questions on changing your oil.. so i got out the camera while i did my last oil change. Hopefully this will answer all questions except when and what kind of oil. Filter. VW Part number - 071-115-562
oil filter that i run is off of a 1995 Eurovan Part # 074-115-561 hold about 1qt in the filter itself. had to slightly bent the secondary air pump a tad so it wouldnt rub.
I've used the larger oil filter for a couple changes and have gone back to the smaller stock filter for one reason. The drain-back valve on the diesel filter didn't work nearly as well as the valve on the smaller stock filter. I'd get a little valve rattle at startup with it which was noisy and embarassing to put it mildly. It did this consistently while the larger filter was used over 3 oil change intervals. Back to the stock filter now and all is silent.
