Yes, absolutely can use Bosch and they were fantastic.
Wait until you change the filter on a Subaru where the filter is upside down.
Honestly I just use whatever BMW certified oil I can find at a good price. Used Motul this time, had Castrol before that. Bosch oil filter.

You could do another oil and filter change to see if it was that or if the oil was just a coincidence.

Oil Filters, I always use OEM Subaru oil filters, I just buy the bulk 12 pack from my dealer.
OEM Mahle/Mann are best. Next best is the higher end Bosch filters.
Happened to me last winter with a Bosch oil filter -- not even an el cheapo aftermarket filter, either. It looked someone had wrung it out like a dishrag.
Bosch filters are almost as bad a FRAM now.
