Oil filter Fram or K&N
Personally, I don't think K&N's filtration is bad enough to where it affects the engine. I've got two vehicles in my family that have been running them since day one with over 200,000 miles.
I also change it every 3,000- 3,500 miles and use the Fram Tough Guard oil filter. it's all i have and i gotta keep it clean.
I have been using fram filters for years with no problems, synthetic oil changed @5000miles or sometimes a bit more. no leaking or any of that other nonsense. Here goes the good old vortex hype again. Use what you want and if it works then stay with it.
when i bought my jetta, it had 78k miles, i made the switch to synthetic and runs alot smoother...its liking it better than the dyno oil...i always use the oem filter... i ordered up one of those k&n filters to give it a try, i wanna see how it turns out
replace the fram oil filter with a bosch or mann and it will go off
I'm happy it ended my cold start rattles if nothing else. I'm just curious to know if you would still see 240 temps with the oem filter....or even a crappy Fram for that matter.
my oil filter housing is leaking profusely from the big O ring again. Has this happened to any of you. What would cause this? Could it be oil filter failure? I only have 1,000 on it since the last change and it happened last time with the same brand of filter (Fram). Any reason for this leak besides it being Fram
hp-2005 will not fit my car. discount auto parts sold that to me after looking in their "data bases". it was wrong though because when i got home and went to do the change, naw. im a 1995 if that helps you out at all. the hp-2005 isnt cartridge type like i/we need
Do NOT use a FRAM oil filter, whatever you do! Mahle, Mann, or VW OEM only.
I have been using FRAM filters all this time, and the problem has re-developed.
