Oil filter Fram or VALVOLINE
Quality air filter changed regularly. Quality oil filter Frams higher end stuff are surprisingly well made for the $.
The OEM filter is not the best in any metric, whether filtration %, efficiency, or longevity. I'd say the OEM A01 filter is regarded as better built too but can be pricier and harder to obtain.
My recommendation would be Fram Ultra XG7317 which is a heavy duty built filter with synthetic media - I happily run this one for two oil changes at 6000 miles before changing.
I use Mobile 1 0w-20 and the top of the line Fram oil filter on my 2013 Highlander.
I'd go with a 'premium' oil filter like a Fram Ultra ($8).
These oils are only as good as the filters you pair them with.
Only filter I’ve ever had fail on me is a FRAM. Never again.
I think I tried using a Fram filter on my '99 truck once, and the filter was designed ever so slightly differently and as a result I lost all my oil in a week.
Wal-mart typically only stocks the Fram filter (gross) for my truck. FRAM (avoid) is PH2. All of them are fine except Fram, unless you are in a pinch.
I certainly would never put in a Fram and would highly recommend to anyone to stay away from that company for your German product.
I just watched an interesting video on Fram and other filters last night. Part of the problem is that Fram doesn't use a normal bypass spring in case the filter gets clogged, and can lead to starving the engine for oil. It's also just a really crappy filter.
