Oil filter LIQUI MOLY or K&N
I have used K&N oil filters my entire life and never once had one leak from the nut portion of the filter housing
I run K&N filters and mobil-1 5W-30 at 350k km
Liquimoly is more expensive, sure, but that’s what I buy. Comes in a nice little kit with a filter and I know I don’t have anything to worry about.
I use the K&N 170 on my 1999 883C, have for years. Not sure why Amazon is saying "not for your model", I've literally been using it for the last 16 years and 70,000 miles, and have ordered 6 of them from Amazon over that time period.
Been running this on my 03’ hatch and it’s been great.
The oil, no, K&N filters I've been using for almost a decade. Doesn't seem to have any issues. And I like the 1 inch nut on it.
Engine carbon cause the dirty looking oil no filter can get rid of the carbon color and I don't wait 5000 miles I change every month but put on 500 km every week highway also your oils detergents could have cleaned some crap from engine I would do a change sooner myself am switching to Pennzoil ultra platinum 5w 30 and k&n gold for maximum flow rate/ oil pressure and 30 micron rating (70 micron is human hair) year round I've got about 335,000 km on Buick Lucerne 3800 series and aiming for 500,000 I used wix XP for years bought bulk from rockauto and got carbon black every change including my ram1500 only 150,000 km highway
I have pulled multiple K&n filters out that have looked a little bent like this. The smashed K&n is definitely shorter.
First and only time i tried a k&n filter the bypass valve did not open and oil sprayed everywhere .I Will never try one again.
Your best bet is to order the proper Mahle filter from your favorite e-tailer and keep it on standby. You could pick up a K&N at Cycle Gear but K&N have a bad reputation in the industry and I’d generally stay away from them.
