Oil filter Wix or Hengst
I tried several different combinations of filter and oil on a 4.0 with 180k. Decided to give T6 and a WixHD filter and everything has been amazing since. Almost all of the little issues seem to have disappeared since I switched.
I actually use a Carquest blue-line filter which is literally a rebadged WIX. Even the part numbers match.
Went ahead and swapped out the factory fill oil after a few hundred miles. I heard they use a synthetic blend so it had to go. Went with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-20 and a Wix HD filter. Oil changes are so easy on these.
In that short time that engine oil made idle smoother, so highly recommend.
I run wix xp on mine. No problems.
I’ve been using 5w30 Castrol full advanced synthetic, with a wix oil filter for all seasons and have had 0 issues.
and get a Wix filter or some mid level filter. dont buy the cheapest one out there. 9-15 dollars is about how much you want to spend on a filter. But it works great.
I use Mobil One in all my cars (15k stuff) but still change it at 5k - it’s pretty black by then - I also use WIX oil filter that is rated one of the best
I ordered from ECS Tuning - Got 5 qts of Mobil 1 ESP, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, DSG filter, magnetic oil drain plug for $100 shipped. All Hengst or Mann filters.
Their WIX XP line is about as good as you can get. Virtually the same as the FRAM Ultras. For normal WIX filters, I consider them to be average. They are what you should get at minimum, anything below is not worth buying. A "gold standard" in fitlers, if you will.
