Shock absorbers Bilstein or Rancho
My current set up is Bilstein 5100s with the front raised the full 2 inches and I run Toyo Open Country R/Ts 33x12.50s on 18" Method NVs.
I recently put Bilstein B-6 in car and it was a marked improvement over my OEM ones..I have a 2017 GLI..I just felt that the stock suspension wasn't that great..I am not lowered. With OEM.. I felt every bump..but worse, I heard every bump..suspension was to me..noisey.
I got the Bilstein B6 on the other morning before work, so I have only 2 days experience with them. It was a substantial change, and I'm sure I will struggle to describe what I feel. First thing - the OEM shocks have less damping. You can push on them easily, and even feel air bubbles and inconsistancies. The B6 takes quite a bit more force to push down, has way more damping, and is perfectly smooth everywhere; It clearly feels like a more expensive product in my hands.
Shocks started bouncing on mine and I replaced with the same bilsteins about 6 years ago. Back are easy DIY. Front need spring compressor. I have 137k on mine and not a single problem in 16 years. These trucks are amazing.
For this project I used Bilstein HDs and the freshly powder coated H&R lowering springs.
I've always liked Bilsteins so I decided to go with a set that were made for 2" lifts. Installing the fronts was a bit of a pain as the lower bolt on these trucks likes to seize. The rears were about 10 minutes each side.
Bilstein B6 is for stock springs. The B8's were noticeably firmer than the B4 (sport, which was available for my Passat, due to the available sport package on the car).
i have Billstein 4600's on my ranger and love them.
I've had Bilstein Sports in the front and Bilstein HD in the back on my B4 PASSAT WAGON. Th eride was way too firm.
I have had Bilstein HDs on my GLS for a couple years now and I also think they are too soft. Still too much body sway and roll, especially loaded for a trip, in my opinion.
