Shock absorbers GABRIEL or OEM Toyota
I used a set of Gabriel Shocks for the front and back of my 98 LX, they are spring assisted load shocks. Super cheap, but it's been 5 years and they are still going strong.
I put some Gabriels on my beater 2004 and really like them. Got 30k on them and still ride nice.
I’ve had Dobinson, bilsteins and now OME and I suggest Toyota OEM. That’ll be your best ride quality on the road by far.
I used Gabriel's on front and KYB in the back. I also replaced the sway bar links. They were busted and rusted out/seized to strut.
These Gabriels are tight. The rear feels a little on the stiff side, but they should soften in a couple thousand miles. They seem really well made, too. The shroud covering the piston seems stout and they came with nice bushings. The stock KYBs were absolutely shot, but they gave it their best try.
I like Gabriel shocks. Gabriel offers one of the most extensive light vehicle product lines in the aftermarket. Not to mention the most durable, too
The beetle ones have done me right for probably 30k miles. My setup is 3.5 in drop plates on 13"s with no leafs removed, it can still haul 800lbs with 130psi in the rear no problem.
Depends on your priorities. I go KYB for a good mix. Monroe if I’m broke. Gabriel if I’m a masochist.
