Spark plug Autolite or OEM BMW
The truck is currently using Autolite XP5245 iridiums. Normally I would go with something from NGK but I figured if the Autolites were a decent price I would get them and they would probably last the life of the truck
If its just painted like some cheap plugs such as some autolites then yes its needed.
So here is my experience with gaps on this engine. The wife 09 Passat was misfiring so I decide to replace the plugs. I buy Autolite double platinums which were gapped huge. Turns out the 0.032 gap was not correct after all and it should have been 0.028. Big difference, this baby flies again (GIAC tune).
I did track it extensively, probably 3-4,000 km of track use. The only thing it needs is brake fluid and better pads and you're good to go. My car was flawless for the entire time I had it. It threw a CEL right before I sold it that was solved with a simple spark plug change. It never overheated at the track and it was a lot of fun there and very refined and comfortable for highway travel.
Autolite 4162's, I changed them out every 1000 miles.
I've had nothing but bad luck with Autolite brand.
I have a poor running Audi in the shop now. While it needs more than plugs, it has autolites.
the autolites are bottom of the barrel, i've only used them once when i was young and dumb and ofc they busted while trying to repair and remove after.
Yeah, get rid of those: autolite is junk.
My dad just returned a set of autolites. I installed them and had immediate misfire.
