Starter motor Bosch or OEM Volkswagen
Starters don’t generally “slow down” with age, really. You’ll just find that one day it quits working. I had a failed starter on a 2002 Jetta, probably at around 290-300k miles
My Passat has 370k km and is 20 years old, still on the original starter, and starts like a champ.
Bosch is also not a bad name starter to buy from something like rockauto.
Just gonna put my 2 cents in, the slow crank is either the starter or the battery. At that age, if the battery tests good it is the starter.
Bosch is just fine. I replaced my starter with a Bosch reman a few years ago, still working flawlessly.
This is 100% your starter motor. The solenoid isn't pulling the starter motor gear off the flywheel fast enough so it grinds. Gets worse in colder weather. The fix is a new starter motor
Bosch has been just fine for me. I also had to replace my starter, go with a brand new bosch unit and youll be fine for a loooong time. Cant beat OE quality.
Cheap starter. 4yrs isn’t bad. Get OEM or Bosch
So I sent it on a nice Bosch one. That lasted 3 months and just failed today.
I pulled the starter, but the auto parts store was not able to test it. I bought a new one, installed it and still nothing.
