Starter motor OEM Subaru or Duralast
Subaru knew their customers were gonna pitch a fit about this so they way overbuilt the starter. It’s rated for 260,000 starts which breaks down to a little over 70/day every single day for 10 years. It’s also physically much larger than the standard starter from previous generations.
On my gen1, when mine was going out I replaced with the s2 starter from autozone "Duralast Starter 19407". Have had no issues since.
I’ve always trusted Autozone with parts and so far haven’t had any issues so I’d recommend duralast. I used two duralast starters before and they’ve worked fine.
yeah its a pretty common thing, i my self have replaced 4 or 5 of them... do yourself a favor, go to autozone and get the duralast one. they're the same thing as the bosch and have a lifetime warranty. oh and that hasnt been the duralast ive had to replace that much, ive only had to replace it once.
My 09 Civic’s starter took a dump (was definitely due) around 2020. Don’t remember why but I got a Duralast starter at AutoZone knowing the pain in the ass risks. After replacing the starter I regretted it given how Honda made it somewhat difficult to replace but not impossible. A little over two years now the starter is now giving me issues with click no turn & me having to give it a tap or two.
Assuming the diagnosis is correct , My advise is to replace with an OEM STARTER. I have had many issues with autozone starters and alternators (duralast brand…I call it duraNOTlast from my experience), I have done many; and have redone many. You will never get the service time from a autozone starter that you have from the OEM starter.
I just had a similar issue with my 2015. I changed the starter with a duralast part from autozone, still didn't work. Ended up biting the bullet and taking the car to Ford. They explained to me that a genuine ford part was needed as the starter is part of the security system.
Guy at work has installed and replaced two Duralast starters in his truck since 2020, and the 3rd one is starting to have issues.
People are really trying to hype this feature up, but i’ve replaced at least 10 starters this year on vehicles with auto stop/start.
I got a starter from Autozone 3 times and finally got one that would start the next day as well. I bought the first one from AZ and it was the Duralast Gold for the lifetime warranty. When I installed the first one it worked for the entire day no problem then the next morning the car wouldn’t start mind you I changed the battery a week prior. So I took it out went back to AZ swapped it out put the new one back in and I worked 5 times until I went to run errands and the car wouldn’t start. Went to a different AZ and swapped it out… now I’m on the 3rd going 2 days strong.
