Starter motor VALEO or OEM Volkswagen
I guess I’m in the minority, but I like the feature. I don’t know how you clowns all drive, but it saves quite a bit of gas in city driving and at least in my Tiguan it seems to work well. I’m still on my original battery and starter at 99K miles, which is more than I can say for some cars with conventional starters I’ve owned.
Starters don’t generally “slow down” with age, really. You’ll just find that one day it quits working. I had a failed starter on a 2002 Jetta, probably at around 290-300k miles
My Passat has 370k km and is 20 years old, still on the original starter, and starts like a champ.
Just gonna put my 2 cents in, the slow crank is either the starter or the battery. At that age, if the battery tests good it is the starter.
About a day ago my starter completely went out on me... and just today I got finished putting an ABA starter into play. Absolutely love how much better it sounds and it has no problems getting things turning.
I replaced my old iron starter in my 84 GTI with the mk4 starter and what a difference (both spinning and weight!
My problem (from 2+ years ago) turned oiut to be a bad starter. The solenoid must have gone south. A new starter motor fixed it.
The starter in my GTI died and I had to push start it. It worked fine but I had a few lights on the dashboard (ESP and something else I think). The starter was the only thing wrong with the car so I think the lights were related to not turning the key to start it.
Never Valeo. JUNK.
I pulled the starter, but the auto parts store was not able to test it. I bought a new one, installed it and still nothing.
