Thermostat MOPAR or Gates
I had the same issue and throwing a bad thermostat error code. I had the thermostat replaced and it kept happening. He said the thermostats out there are crap and they’ve had to change some 3 times. He did recommend getting a Mopar thermostat if I could. It was replaced and I’ve had no issues.
The OE version is the only one that works. Knock off t-stats will generally last a few weeks to a few months. The OE thermostat has been updated, pops at 203 degrees and lasts much longer than anything else. An OE thermostat seems to fail open. Whereas the knock-offs fail shut.
I installed a Gates 33009S 195 degree after my Hughes install and haven’t had issues.
The brand new thermostat wasn’t opening all the way. One new Gates thermostat fixed the issue.
I always use Premium Thermostats, which are billed to fail open. Gates or Stant are my favorite brands.
Gave up and bought the genuine Mopar stat, haven't had issues since.
Finally got around to replacing the thermostat on my 2000 XJ. Temp rarely hit 210 unless I was idling for a while so I suspected a bad thermostat. Sure enough it was stuck in the open position. I was able to find an OEM one part # 5202 8186AC. 195 degree with a weephole. Noticeable difference in performance and it’s nice to have heat again.
Yep, these are a known bitch to bleed out the air, as well as aftermarket thermostat's not working well after replacement. I have seen some go thru a few to get one that works.
The thermostat failed twice. Once at like 80k miles and again at 115k miles. The second time it failed I replaced it with an aftermarket one that had a metal stem instead of plastic. It made it until we traded it in.
we warrantied a Gates thermostat on a pentastar 3.6L three fkn times because the guy said it kept overheating going up hills. Originally replaced for P0128 thermostat code. Then we put an oem part in and it’s never overheated since.
