Timing belt AISIN or Gates
I just did the timing belt in my new to me 2004 limited and bought the aisin timing belt kit (tkt-021) with water pump. I bought it from summit racing for $183 had it overnighted to me for additional $33 and still cheaper than any parts store near me by $70.
That being said the Aisin timing belt kits are the only ones I use at my shop.
Gates, I've installed dozens of them and never had a problem, easily outlast the timing belt.
I used a gates (rpm) belt , its expensive ($80?) but i feel like thats a part you dont want to go cheap with !
We have a gates timing belt in our 04 Jetta that was placed Dec 2010 and 72k miles ago. Going to change it here soon with a new one this spring. Its accessory belt is gates too. My 06 Navigator has a gates drive belt. Brother in law’s BRZ had a gates belt.
Recently replaced my 2004 UL timing belt at 100k and it came out looking like new with no real evidence of wear. Worth doing though, for peace of mind. Highly recommend the Aisin kit.
Yes. Those are the only brand kits I use for the most part (unless a customer wants factory).
Was able to get the new belt installed with a little less tension but still less than 90* of flex. It till popped a tiny bit during crank rotation, but I decided to go with it, have driven it for about an hour or so, put it through a couple heat cycles all while checking it every 15 ish minutes. First couple times I checked it, it was kinda tight, last couple times I checked it, it felt ok, so idk.
I’m looking at you all you cheap fucking Honda timing belts. Gates/oem or go fuck your mother.
I had that one but it never quieted down and I ended up switching to a normal belt.
