My 4.0 V6 Mustang has not jumped timing and destroyed the engine despite the 4.0 being infamous for it at very low mileage. It's probably because I actually take care of my car and change the oil regularly.

My timing chain needed replacing a few weeks ago. It cost £4k, engine out job. But I caught it early, before it actually snapped, apparently it’s a common problem, needs replacing around 90k miles, drove perfectly fine, smooth af before and after, except it was hesitant to start, thought it was starter motor but no, was the timing chain

2014 F30 with N26 engine. 157K miles on original timing chain and BMW tech just inspected chain and guide after removing valve cover and said both are good.

I bought my E91 N43B20 with 120.000km in 2017. Now its 2025 and 250.000km I had to replace the timing chain and the NOX sensor once, but other than that I had no problems with the engine. Still the same injectors, ignition coils, high pressure fuel pump etc.
Pros: proper maintenance is key
Cons: low-performer

1976 Ford Custom 500, 400 ci, timing chain lifted off the sprockets, 3 cam lobes were rounded. Oil was regularly changed.

Daca esti dispus sa sacrifici un pic la an si fiabilitate ( oarecum ) te poti uita si la un bmw 118-120d cu mentiunea ca posibil sa fie “mai manarita” la banii aia si cu vesnica problema a distributiei.
