My best experiences have been with Hankook I-pike studless snows. I'd be willing to bet that they could hang with or out perform some of the pricier options listed here. They are great when roads are wet too.
Hankook Ice Pike's are the best all around snow tire that have used. Wear, road noise and dry handling were much better than Bridgestone's, and any of the others that I have tried over the years. No perceivable loss in snow traction on a TSX wagon under normal snow conditions.
Wears like iron, just like the R-S3, but doesn't need as much heat to work. I can leave the sprayer at home and just ignore them.
It'll be a huge leap over those junk Hankooks.
Get Hankooks or Firestones if you want to save a couple of bucks, while still having a great tire.
If you are choosing between those two only, KO2 hands down. Had probably 5 sets and have always been happy with them. One of my go to tires for any 4x4 vehicle for everyday driving. Great handling in all conditions, sand dunes, mud, trails etc. Keep them rotated regularly and you will have good treadlife.
I put new KO2s on my ‘15 4Runner in Kansas in 2017. Moved to VA, then last year hauled a fully loaded 6x12 5000 miles up to Alaska via Texas. Drove on them all last winter and all this summer. Still plenty of tread life and no issues yet pushing 70,000 miles later after driving in just about every condition imaginable.
I have K02 and love them, they look bad as hell too with the sidewall treads
My 2017 Beetle S came with the tires specified immediately below...Hankook Kinergy GT...Originally, tire wear appeared to be proceeding well...After the 16,000 mile service...I noticed the centers of two tires...to have lost the siping \u2013 classic over-inflation indicator...Recently at 19,000 miles I noted the front tires...had lost the center siping \u2013 again signifying over-inflation...I am not particularly surprised at the center wear as I think a load index of 95 is fairly high for this vehicle...I cannot imagine 60,000 miles for these tires.
Mazda 6: Some randoms from the PO to Continental DWS. Huge improvement in road noise, which is good because I spent a while searching for the lowest road noise tires that would fit the odd stock tire size. Big traction improvement too, but that was not a surprise. No handling change otherwise.
S2000: BFG g-Force to Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 - these were cheap and horrible, but lasted forever. The weak sidewall made the car squish all over the place in any maneuver reminiscent of a lane change. Very strange behavior from the steering wheel when the car would re-center itself.
