Tires MICHELIN or Hankook
I took advantage of the 4th of July sales and ditched the stock Pirellis for Michelin Sport 4S because I’m going for a road trip along Big Sur and through the Redwoods (Hated the Pirellis).
I have Ecopias as OEM rolling @ 99. My winters (GTA) are Michelin X-Ice Xi3 99T @ 215-65-17.
I have a focus St with Michelin pilot super sports. While the compound sucks when it hits freezing temps, I've had no issues getting around, unless it's super icy.
I haven't been able to gloat anywhere, but I just nabbed a pair of PS4Ss for 149/ea. They really are incredible tires
I run Hankook RS4s on my dedicated track M3. I street drive mine to tracks, including one 120 miles away. I get about 20 track hours out of them, which equals about 18 track days. The downside is they don't work great when cold, and when they heat cycle out they turn into bricks.
Based on this description I would recommend Hankook RS4's they in the 2nd tier of performance, you'll be leaving maybe 1s per lap of performance over an A052 or an RE71R. But they last forever, are reasonably priced, feel good, won't kill you in the wet.
On the two Hondas I leased, all I did other than oil changes was switch out the tires on my Accord coupe V6/6-speed after one got punctured. I wanted to do it anyway; the stock tires sucked, and the one thing the car did great was accelerate, so I put a set of Michelin Super Sports on it. It stopped acting like I was waterboarding it with high-RPM shifts into 2nd after that.
Just had a set of 225/40R18 Pilot Sport 4s tires mounted on my summer wheels -- saved $150. Great service at my local Tire Center. Guys were nice and knew their stuff. They also used a $16,000 Coats APX90E tire changer, which was a nice bonus and didn't leave a scratch anywhere.
I'm currently running Michelin Premieres on my Jetta. They are great tires, especially in the wet, but don't get near the longevity that they claim. I've put TrueContacts on our old Forester, and was very happy with them. I've also had General Altimax HP's on the Jetta (same category tire), and was happy with those as well. Generals are a great budget tire. They were very quiet, and I'll echo the comment that they feel squirmy at first until all the casing oil gets out of them.
Riding on Pirellis Cinturatos P7 now. IMO best tire for the Passat. The hankooks had no grip even in very light snow. Rain driving was scary, loud on highway. I couldn't risk driving my family with them.
