Tires MICHELIN or Nokia
I put on a full set of Michelin XIce3 P205/55R16 with steel rims just before the first big snow hit and I'm glad I did. There's nothing like having a proper set of winter tires.
Once Old Man Winter came knocking, I found a set of 18” Talladega take-offs from a ‘13 Golf R locally on Craigslist and fitted with Michelin Alpin PA4 (225/40/18). Dry and wet winter handling is fantastic - feels like spring or fall.
The Michelin icex tires are great in snow, provide a good ride, and are quiet.
This time, with Nokian WRG3, which have the snowflake rating. Drove to work yesterday with the same Nokian tires; no problem. With decent tires, and throttle and speed control, one should be fine.
I installed Micheline X-Ice xi3s a few days prior -- Boy was I impressed. I feel so much more confident in it than my 4runner. I even made it up a small hill that was basically just an ice sheet from a stop. I'm taking it out skiing this weekend with multiple inches of snow in the forecast, after last night I'm quite confident in the little GTI.
Happy with the snow handling Have micheline X-ice tires on, big upgrade there compared to the stock Continental tires. Handles great in the snow and on the ice up here in Saskatoon, SK.
i run Michelin lattitudes after going through the OEM GY s at 30K miles.
I picked up a set of Core Racing winter wheels that look good (I don't like the look of plain steel wheels), and put Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi tires on them. I just replaced them two weeks ago with a brand new set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 tires. Best winter tires available, if you ask me.
because I had Hakka 8s un-studded on my previous GTI and they were great.
Used a higher quality tyre last time : Michelin Alpine 5...
I had used cheap winters before but you really do notice the difference in quality, grip etc
