Tires Nexen or NANKANG
I have the nexens on my golf R and they are perfectly serviceable winter tires. Would buy them again no problem
We ran those Nexens for a few years on a Ford Focus RS AWD in winter and it's a solid tire... The Michelin is a better tire especially on ice, but for $150 less I would take the Nexens again. This is in ND, so winters can get pretty extreme and they perform well.
Nankang NS-2R. Semislick tyre made for endurance.
With one set of this I made more than 1.000km on track.
And they are cheap.
I had a set of Nankang NS-25 UHP tires on my mazda 3 turbo sedan. They were great tires and handled really well. Got about 30k miles out of them. I was pretty pleased, they even did alright in snow.
So to create some perspective, my AR1’s on a small light car (Miata), lasted for 5 track days. Assuming an average of 20 mins per session, and around four sessions in morning and four in afternoon, we can assume I’m doing around 160 minutes or driving per day. So in theory I put 13 hours on those tyres!
Bought my truck in 2019 at 55k miles with NEXEN tires, it’s 2024 98k miles and still in the green for discount tires tread chart (8/32”). I was told they are cheap tires but they’re quiet and have held up great.
I've used Nexen All Seasons and they weren't bad, not the best tires but for the price they were pretty good.
I swapped out the primacy's with nankang ns-20s and I feel like the car is less responsive. For instance, when quickly changing lanes on the freeway I feel like the ride is more spongy. They're way better for traction, but I feel less agile.
I started sliding sideways when taking off from the lights in the rain. The very next opportunity I had Pilot Sport 4 on and never looked back.
IMO those tires were bottom of the barrel. I would just replace.
