Tires Nexen or Vredestein
Get Roadstones which are made by Nexen. I use them on a remapped (300bhp) 3 litre diesel BMW and they are great in both the dry and the wet.
I had *Continental MaxContact 5* 2015 that lasted me 2016-2019. In 2020, I moved over to *Nexen N’fera AU7* (2019) on an extremely good deal. I’ll have you know, i’ve put down 90k highway kilometers on this rubber and it still drives great.
I've been looking for these for a long time and bought a brand new set in January. Great winter tires!
Go with the Vredestein. It has consistently been rated excellent with no drawbacks, whereas the Pirelli has gotten criticized for subpar wet traction.
I've found 40 psi to be a good pressure and I've had the Kona nearly 5 years, original Nexens. Sharpens up the handling over the recommended pressure.
If you’re in the Bay Area with limited winter driving go for the Vredestein Hitrac’s. They are quiet comfortable and within surly upgrade your ride.
I replaced a pair of 2013 accord tires with **Vredestein Quatrac 5** and those are serving me well from last 4 years and 15000 miles .
We ended up replacing ours at 25k with Vredestein Quatrac Pro’s from Tire Rack. I highly recommend them.
I have cheap Chinese I think, Nexan tires on my GTI because thats what the dealer put on the car. The ride real smooth, very quite and after 2 years and 20k miles they just wont' wear out. Probably have another 20k miles left to them. The wet grip is awful though. Dry grip is good.
Unfortunately I’ve learned my own lesson that the ratings aren’t entirely accurate.
I got the Quadtracs based on the ratings and they are neither quieter nor offer more traction than the stock primacys
