Tires NITTO or Nokia
I’ve always been a fan of Nokian tires. Through research, found what seemed like the perfect set. Hakkapeliitta R3’s. They’re studless tires, but with crystals molded into the rubber compound that act like micro studs. I didn’t want anything that would create much road noise, since road noise is mainly what we hear in the EV, so these seemed like the best of both worlds.
I loved the ridge grapplers
We have ridge grapplers on our FJ and terra grapplers on our 4Runner… terra grapplers are more quiet by far.
I had a set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers for around 50k miles... The Ridge Graps are great for off-road, good for on road (not as good as the Recons), but I have mixed experiences using them in the rain - they kinda feel splashy... But I was very impressed with the amount of tread left after I put 50k miles on them.
I just added the Nitto Ridge Grapplers to my truck. They look great! There's a bit more road noise than the stock Pirreli's, but that's no surprise.
I have the Nitto555 G2's on my 2015 GT with the PP and the are great in wet weather, the hook up good
The Nokian tires are the winner. We run these tires in Greenland, and I run them on the R (The R2’s) in the North East. They are incredible tires in cold weather conditions. I’ve gotten many seasons - i am just now retiring them, after a very long run. They would have lasted even longer except I left them on the car in the summer because I couldn’t bring myself to switch to my firmer summer tires. Despite the abuse they held up.
Looks good. I did 275/60/20 E Range Recons back in January and have about 5k on em. Only one issue was the past few weeks I had a slight leak that ended up being three very small punctures from some framing nails. Plugged em myself and haven’t had an issue in a week so we’ll see if I fixed it.
Still no appreciable road noise, and the only noticeable mpg drop is in the city going light to light. On flat hwy the mpgs went down maybe 1 mpg over 120 mi. I’ve aired em down and taken them out on the beach and they performed perfectly. They’ve been on some back mountain roads in WV and had much more traction than the stockers.
Now, with the E rated tires vs the stock Goodyears, I did notice that the rear spin a LOT easier in the rain.
I had NeoGens on a G35 Coupe and liked them ok. Continentals are better IMO.
NT05 isn't great. And I hate the 555's - the orig were cheap and OK but the G2 is worse, you can do better with Firestone Indy 500's or Continental ExtremeContact both are about 300TW.
