Studded all the way! Had Hakkas on my RAV4 and they made such a difference. They can save your life on black ice.

If this is your first time, yes get some studded tires, something like a Hakkapelitta.
My little car, a fwd Ford Focus has non studded Hakkapelittas.
Don't drive them on bare asphalt unless you want to see them wear down quickly.
I will not buy Nokian. Dry rot and cracking on sidewalls on 3000 miles. Didn't stand behind their warranty
