Tires PHANTOM or VITOUR
Vitour P1 for a long lasting 200tw that's only a hair behind the Hoosier. They also handle heat well, and come in some creative sizes
Sunday I'm doing my first event on the Vitour P1, moving from the Rival S 1.5. I'll report back.
Biggest thing on them is the sizes. They make weird sizes that can net you an advantage, especially on specific cars.
I've done about 1200 Street miles and it's a clearly faster tire. Hard as hell when cold. Like, the first mile or two is pretty bouncy. But settles in quickly just on street driving. I imagine the first lap will get enough heat in.
While I'd love to do an apples to apples size wise, the very availability of a 305 in a 15" tire at 200tw is a huge consideration. Like for like they could be slower, but the next widest 15" option is a 245" by the competitors' 200tw offerings. So, I'll post my results after Sunday's event.
The shorter overall OD can also help (or hurt) depending on gearing.
I just out a set on my daily and so far I really like them. I came from BFG Rivals. The P1 definitely grips harder.
They're very new so not a ton of data on them, but they seem to be running with the fastest tires, and supposedly are lasting longer while being cheaper to buy.
I've put about 1500 miles on mine so far and am impressed with the wear.
I dont care about road noise so i stick to Vitour Tempesta Enzo semi slicks, insane cornering stabilty, dry grip is phenomenal as well as steering response.
Go for the Vitour P1. Just out a set on my MR2 this weekend. Wow so much grip
I'm running them on my C7Z (315/345s on 18s). Only one event on them so far (next one is tomorrow) and can confirm they are stupid fast. I was running Conti ECFs previously and about 70% of my first event on the P1s was trying to find the limit and learn the tire.
I don't know if it is still relevant, but I put this Phantom on my 2020 Ridgeline, and I’m very happy. I saved at least $200. The tires were a little bit noisy in the beginning but after the first month much better ???? keep road as champ even under heavy rain. Totally recommend this tires!
I tried P1s for autoX. P1s are in the hunt. They can keep up with competitive tires, but I think Yokes are probably a little bit better for overall. I'd give Yokes a slight advantage for forward bite, especially off the line and in cooler temperatures.
as a tire, they seem slightly dubious as far as the 200tw rating goes (although a052s are super low-duro too). they don't work well on heavy cars and from a buddy who runs them in practice/at non-scca events, they seem to overheat/slide a lot (corresponds to what the GRM article states). but they for sure are quick.
In australia we sold them as a budget brand, they were noisy, slippery and very average however as a drift tyre, i have no idea.
