I run Audi A3 17" wheels with Dunlop 3D sport winters. They're not the best snow tire, but they are significantly better than an all season and I have yet to have any issues getting around. Car feels stables, and brakes are actually effective unlike with all seaons.
Tires are awesome in the snow.

when i had my 03 wolfsburg i ran 225/45/17 dunlop signature HP's, amazing tire for the money
They have crushed walnut shells embedded in the rubber compound for extra grip and I'm very pleased with them.
17" VW/Ronal Sima with Dunlop Wintersport 4D. Really happy with this combo.
BMW road force balanced them and they were perfect... my savings were about $750 after getting them to do the balancing.
I had a set of Dunlop SP Sport tires on the Sentra a while back. They were good in the dry, decent in the wet and sucked ass in the cold.
I just got my first experience on the Toyos this morning in some snow here in Virginia. The Toyos were really pretty awful :-(. They're fine for getting going and driving around - in fact, even starting off a hill was really no issue, but God help you if you have to stop quickly...because they wont. It was a slide-fest even with just a thin layer of snow.
Stock Dunlops are garbage. I barely got 17kish out of mine and they were at 3/32".
