Tires Vredestein or RIKEN
I have the wintrac pro on our GLE, think they’re a really good tire and will probably buy them again. They are also really good in the wet, didn’t have any surprising moments this winter, both in snowy/slushy and wet conditions.
I have the Quatrac 5 on my wife's Civic. I feel like they're kind of noisy, but that's definitely the car's fault to some degree. Otherwise, they ride well and have great grip.
I've been looking for these for a long time and bought a brand new set in January. Great winter tires!
Go with the Vredestein. It has consistently been rated excellent with no drawbacks, whereas the Pirelli has gotten criticized for subpar wet traction.
If you’re in the Bay Area with limited winter driving go for the Vredestein Hitrac’s. They are quiet comfortable and within surly upgrade your ride.
I replaced a pair of 2013 accord tires with **Vredestein Quatrac 5** and those are serving me well from last 4 years and 15000 miles .
We ended up replacing ours at 25k with Vredestein Quatrac Pro’s from Tire Rack. I highly recommend them.
Rikens are fine. They're quite a soft tyre, probably because like you said Michelin make them butbthat does meant the grip is decent.
Tires like QUATRAC 5 offer solid performance when new or slightly used. Due to well siped thread lugs and overall spacing of tread lugs, it offers well mannered ride in wet, maybe even in snow. However, based on my subjective experience, after owning many different types of tires, I noticed semi-open outer tread lugs only work until they are worn down to tire bar that stabilizes the tread lugs. Once tread is worn pass that bar, performance diminishes adversely.
Routine maintenance at VW dealer alerted me to tire cracks. Cracks would be an understatement. The tires had 14,000 miles on them. They are meant to be under warrantee. The local tire store and I phoned each Vredestein and left messages. I wrote the company three times. No response.
