Tires YOKOHAMA or FEDERAL
Tirerack just imported the Yokohama AVS ES 100 in that size and that tire is rated UHP! ....And actually I got a set and put 2.ooo miles so far on them, so I could start saying that for 73$ per tire it's maybe the best you can do. The are very quiet and very sticky, and side wall is so stiff, u feel u have upgraded wheels too!
I had 15" steelies on my car originally - ran Yoko AVS dB in 205/60/15. Gigantic improvement over the stock rubber (Goodyear Eagle LS 195/65/15). Great dry and wet traction - a lot of fun on the twisties.
The 17" Wheels on the MCS weigh 25 lbs. The 17" Runflats weigh 25 lbs. SO 50 lbs a corner. I went to the MINI R84 16" wheels and the Yokohama AVS ES100 205/50 R16's and saved 70 lbs of rotating weight.
The 378's are great, very quiet and great in rain/snow (were my snows until I changed cars). The RE930's are really nice - quiet, but not as quiet as the 378's, perhaps a bit more responsive - but are a little more worn.
I have Yokahama AVS dB's on my Q45. They are quite possibly the best tire I've owned on any car.
I just purchased a set of Yokohama AVSdb tires for a 99 Jetta GLS and they are awesome! Nice handling, great in the rain, and not expensive.
I had / have AVID H4's on my Golf and think they are a really good tire. MUCH better than the stock Eagle GA's (but then what isn't). Good dry and wet traction, not bad in moderate snow but you really need to get real snows if you get more than a few inches of accumulation or slushy / ice conditions. Wear was quite good for an H rated tire, I managed about 65,000 kms or approx. 40k miles, not too shabby. I would say get them. Good entry level performance tire. Not hard core, but really good nonetheless.
I just put the tires on my Rabbit about 3000 miles ago. I would have to say they are the best tires I have ever had on a VW. They are also pretty good for wet traction.
I had 205-5015 khumos 712 esctas on 15x7 and they where wonderfull now I have yokohama YK420 195-50-15 they are fair and grip just fine for H rated tires...
Have you ever driven a car with Yokohama A032R tires? They're extremely noisy (like an old Toyota 4x4 with big off-road tires) The only thing they're good for is roadracing in the rain, not much else. I've driven a few cars on em and i could actually feel the tread vibration in the body of the car on top of the loud roaring road noise.
