Windshield OEM Subaru or OEM KIA
I’ve replaced three Subaru windshields via safelite with no recalibration and everything works fine with the cameras and sensors.
I got a crack in my windshield the first weekend of driving my Outback in 2017. A huge rock was kicked up on the interstate, I think most cars would’ve had the same result as my car.
My 02 Impreza has multiple big cracks and a million chips, I've just been ignoring it for the last 10 years...
I had my Outback windshield crack and my Forrester windshield crack..
Just replaced my glass after about 29k miles. Subaru glass is either cheap or placed at a bad angle.
My forester XT was WAY worse though because eyesight needs thinner or softer glass
About to be on my third windshield in 3500 miles. First one was a pebble on the highway at 65mph, second was because some asshole drifted into the bike lane and kicked up a pebble around 45 mph. I owned a Legacy GT for 5+ years, doing the same commute as now, and only had to replace the windshield once. Outback owners filed a class action lawsuit against Subaru for their cheap glass.
I've had my windshield crack on all three of my subarus. Last time I went in last year with my 2020, the guy at safelite told me they are prone to breakage because of the angle they're at. They said they get subs and jeeps the most because of this
As for weak glass on Subarus? Probably not exactly what you think. IIRC, Subaru has started designing their frames to include the windshield as a structural component. This allows them to have smaller A-Pilars, which have grown to be massive these days. The downside of this is that a rock strike that you would normally brush can grow as the new weak point is challenged by the frame. What causes our windshield replacement was a hit that caused a quarter-sized crack, at the start of a 10 hour road trip. I watched that crack grow to 18 inches over that trip. While thermal expansion and frost could do that on older cars, I’ve never seen a crack grow quite like that.
I’m about to replace my 5th windshield on my 2022 Outback. Subaru doesn’t acknowledge anything out of the ordinary. I’ve contacted them multiple times. No impact at all. I park in garage and next day it’s cracked. Totally normal to Subaru.
