Windshield OEM Toyota or OEM Volkswagen
Figured I should close out this thread by saying I did order the windshield after spending some time with the dealer and their computer. They told me no returns on it if I am wrong about it being the windshield. So $975 (before install costs) later it came in this week and is indeed the windshield.
I replaced a windshield in my 2023 Camry this year and it was $800. The Toyota dealerships near me do not replace windshields and told me to go with a local windshield replacement business. The business brought my car to the Toyota dealership after installing the new windshield to have everything calibrated.
If you have the rain-sensing wipers, you will need OEM toyota glass because the rain sensor depends on the optical characteristics of the windscreen. My local Safelite assured me their glass would work, but it didn't (the wipers would run on random but frequent intervals), so they put in a second third-party windscreen, and it didn't work either. So I had them put in a third windscreen (they went with OEM), and everything was fine after that. OEM is an extra-cost option on the first install but it costs 40% more.
Still getting the runaround on trying to find a replacement. In my experience, the VW's windshields tend to chip & crack so easily. the aftermarket lasts so much longer.
I just had my windshield replaced; I've noticed a slight visual ripple at the base of the windshield on the passenger side. Since it's right at the base it's not something that causes any weirdness while driving. I can't say I even noticed anything with the previous windshield.
We have a 2024 RAV4 we purchased 16 months ago and are already on our third windshield.
My 2019 rav4 is on its 4th windshield (3 replacements). It is the only vehicle I've owned in my 24 years of driving that I've had to replace a windshield on.
My wife got a 2019 Rav4. Needed windshield replaced within first month
Camry 2025, a week in, and I got a small chip in front of me. never had that issue before
Owned 3 weeks, getting replaced Wednesday. I was parked in my garage for a week while I was out of town… came back to a crack (no kids, no pets, nothing from ceiling). Crack almost dead center starting from bottom, no chips or impact marks. Drove to windshield repair place 5 miles away, it had grown. The said it could still be fixed and couldn’t find any impact marks. Made appt for next day, by then crack had tripled in dive just sitting in the garage. Now being replaced with non-OEM glass since OEM glass sucks.
