Safelite replaced the glass on my 2019 r. You 100% do not want the generic it will not fit and line up properly. I got and oem Pilkington glass and it fit perfect factory I had saint gobain.
I recommend going with the OEM glass (which is Pilkington). There have been a number of complaints with aftermarket glass being "softer" and more suspectable to cracks/chips compared to the OEM glass.
I ended up with pilkington and the quality has been fantastic.
Had mine replaced at the end of last year with a new Pilkington unit. The mirror sensor was unclipped and the clipped onto the new one - no issues. Like others have said, the cheap OEM version on my old 2018 was soft and pitted/stained easily. Worth the upgrade!
Pilkington is an OEM supplier so I wouldn\u2019t be too worried; my old Volvo had a factory Pilkington windshield.
I have an 18. I've had my windshield replaced. Replacement glass from Pilkington, made at same factory as the original VW glass. Was around $300-400 installed. No camera calibration required.

They put yet another in, and it also cracked soon after. They insisted they saw an impact location at the edge of the crack and wouldn't cover replacement so I had to pay for it. I insisted they use a non-Safelite window, so they installed a Pilkington. Twice as expensive, but no problems since.
I had a Pilkington windshield installed a few weeks ago. I agree, the fitment isn't the greatest. On the OEM and Guardian I had. I could fit my sunshade between the glass and dash, no such luck on the Pilkington.
