SUMITOMO Tires

I just put the conti viking contacts back on the s5 last week, and I need to get some winter tires for the sq5, I think I'm going with the sumitomo ice edge as we had them with the old a4 and they went through anything. I'll probably put them back on the s5 next year. We're in NH and go up north all lot for riding, plus we get decent snow and they're great for the $. Then it's wheel shopping for the sq5 for next year! It's so nice and easy to swap out winter/ summer wheels and tires.

Pros: went through anything, great for the $
Vehicle: Audi S5

Continental Tires

Conti’s on my Audi & Pirellis on my R32. Both really good, but the Conti’s over Pirellis. I thought the Pirellis grip, but they stay softer. Conti’s have great grip thru the driving experience.

Pros: Conti’s have great grip
Cons: Pirellis stay softer
Vehicle: Audi

I have DWS06+ on my s4 after my previous tires took a crap. Great tires! Awesome wet and dry traction and fairly quiet. Also cheaper than other brands. Would highly recommend!

Pros: awesome wet and dry traction, fairly quiet
Cons: previous tires took a crap

EBC Brake pads
IdriveafastVW
Rating 5.0
  • Braking:
  • Dust:

What's the current pad thickness? I'm about to install EBC Yellowstuff pads and new rotors on my Allroad. I've had Redstuff pads on lots of previous cars and found it was a great compound for low dust and better braking performance over the factory semi-metallic pads. I mostly use Yellowstuff nowadays simply because I like the way they brake (sharp bite, no fade on the street). But they are super dusty.

Pros: great compound, low dust, better braking
Cons: super dusty
Vehicle: Audi A4 allroad

Continental Tires

My Michelin pilot sport all seasons have treated me well… My a4 came with the older version of those continentals, as soon as I switched them it felt like the steering was much sharper and road noise was much less. Rain performance is also nuts. I’d skip the Pirellis but i’ve only driven the summer tire which had the same issues (noise & numb steering)

Pros: sharper steering, less road noise, nuts rain performance
Cons: skip Pirellis (noise & numb steering)
Vehicle: Audi A4

OEM Audi Brake pads

1.5 years ago a client was offered brake pads only with a 1 year warranty, no guarantee against noises or pulsations, or brake pads and rotors together with a 3 year warranty against noises and pulsations. They opted for the 1 year option on their fancy 2017 Audi because the rotors were stupid expensive.

Pros: 1 year warranty offered
Cons: no guarantee against noises

OEM Audi Brake booster
ovo4ever
Rating 3.0
  • Pedal effort:

I’ve been getting a Brake Booster Restricted error along with an Auto Start-Stop System Fault on my 2017 Audi A4. This happened a few times before...for those who had the same warning, did you also hear a knocking sound when braking or feel any feedback through the pedal?

Cons: knocking sound when braking
Vehicle: Audi A4

OEM Audi Water pump

2013 A5 Cabriolet here. Most of what I read said the water pump should make it to around 100k. Mine went at around 85k.

Cons: pump failed early
Vehicle: Audi A5
Mileage: 85000 km

OEM Audi Starter motor

Tried that by getting an Allroad.

A "proper" MK1 Alload, V6 2.7 twinturbo, all the toys. Uppy-downy suspension, tippable 'box, etc...

The bill for the first repairs was around 600 for a starter motor, then 5 months later the dam burst and the cost was equivalent to the GDP of a medium sized country.

Sold it for scrap for half the price of the starter.

Lesson learned.

Cons: high repair costs
