OEM Mazda Brake pads

I was quoted 1200 to change my brake pads on my ND. Did it myself of course but it was funny to find out what the dealership wanted.

Pros: did it myself
Cons: expensive dealership quote

OEM Mazda Fuel pump

Rating 5.0

That’s Switzerland right? Because I was quoted 1600€ when my fuel pump broke in Switzerland. We let the car out of the Mazda dealership and got back with a friend a couple of days after. 15’ minutes of work to change it with a high flow one and lots of laughs while the dealership mechanics where looking at us. 200€ brand new…

Pros: easy to change, brand new
Cons: expensive dealership quote

Brembo Brake discs
sugondeez
Rating 4.5
  • Braking:

I recently installed Brembo rotors and pads on my ‘14 Mazda 6. Under $400 on tire rack. The performance is great so far; they bite harder than OEM and are quiet with low dust.

Pros: bite harder than OEM, quiet
Cons: low dust

Bosch Brake pads

I got a nice upgraded pad and rotor kit (all 4) for around $340. If you already have a set of wrenches, you can probably just do the job yourself; so many youtube tutorials. I did a full brake job on my other car for the first time ever so bought all the tools needed (maybe $150 worth) - wrench set, torque wrench, breaker bar, wire brushes, grease, brakleen spray - and still very much under what I would have spent at a mechanic. If you have the space and time, it's really not that bad and can actually be enjoyable with some beer and tunes. Would never go to the dealer for something like that unless I had money to burn.

Pros: inexpensive, easy DIY

Continental Tires

I put Continental ExtremeContact on my Miata last Summer and I am all in on those tires. I could not overdrive them.

Pros: could not overdrive

MICHELIN Tires
pinnacle57
Rating 4.5
  • Grip:
  • Ride comfort:

CrossClimates are a much better tire in my experience and opinion. They are stiffer and less soft, much more sporty feel but with balance. I felt like I had less control with a boaty steering feel on the Weatherpeaks.

Pros: sporty feel, better control
Cons: boaty steering feel

Pirelli Tires

Decided to upgrade the stock Toyo A36s on my 21 CE Turbo AWD at 14k miles. The Toyos weren't great when new but they worked and even did pretty well in the snow last winter. They wore really quickly though and only had about 4/32nds left when I went for annual inspection a couple of weeks ago. I did some research and narrowed replacements down to either Michelin CC2s or the Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActive. The WeatherActive is pretty new and there weren't many reviews available and even less that had any snow testing so I wanted to share my brief experience. They feel great. Really grippy and stable on dry roads and so much better at absorbing bumps and general road noise. I'm sure a lot of this is just new vs old tires but it still makes the CX5 feel great. Also got a few inches of snow overnight and the tires are solid in the snow. Acceleration, turning, and braking are all almost as good as on dry roads with the old tires. I'd highly recommend considering these if you're looking for new tires. They're generally going to be a bit less than the CC2s but offer very similar specs and performance. And the 235 55 size looks awesome on the CX5. Would definitely recommend something like this as opposed to an AT tire if you want a more sporty look without sacrificing the CX5s great driving characteristics.

Pros: grippy, stable, absorbs bumps
Cons: wore really quickly

Bosch Brake pads

I went for Bosch models. Fronts have faired much better than oem. Rears I had some other issues (didn’t use service mode) that destroyed them prematurely

Pros: fronts better than OEM
Cons: rears destroyed prematurely

OEM Mazda Windshield

I never scratched a windshield in my life until my 2024 Mazda. In the first month! The squeegee put an 8” scratch right in my line of sight. It drives me crazy.

Cons: scratched easily, scratch in line of sight

OEM Mazda Windshield

Rating 1.0
  • Chips/cracks:

My 2020 CX-5 cracked windshield twice since last year. It's probably the original Mazda branded windshield that is an issue. I drive normal within city, so not much freeway driving at all

Cons: cracked easily, cracked twice
