We have the optional 21" wheels with T rated Pirelli Scorpion tires. Plenty firm, and it doesn't wallow around at all.
To your comment about the GITI tires...my 2019 SE came with them. I've put about 2k miles on the car so far. I have always been a bit of a tire snob, changing OE tires for higher grade ones rather quickly. But I have to admit that these OE tires have really surprised me. They're quiet, smooth, and do the job a small SUV needs. Now, I'll still probably go with a different company when these wear out, but for now I'm satisfied.
I now have 18" wheels and tires to replace the base car's 17" and that was all that was needed, good Michelins as well.
I went with Conti purecontact LS in 225/50. Fits the rim great. Conti specifies 6-8" width and this rim is 7". I know wider isn't considered better for winter but it's a great tire and will do much better than what comes oem in the cold and snow. Still a narrower contact patch than what comes on the SEL. Same revolutions per mile as the stock 205/55. These are all season as opposed to all whether but get better snow and ice reviews than many all weathers.
So my car has 86k on the clock and its an Edition 30 GLI. Great car by the way. I service it every 5k with Mobil 1 0W-40 Euro Formula (502.00 spec) with a MANN filter.
Yes, I replaced the water pump with a metal water pump n new timing belt. Completely rebuilt the engine.
I used VCDS to recalibrate the speedo after swapping tires from Dunlop SP Sport 225/40R18 to Pirelli Pzero 235/40R18 rubber. Best I could achieve was with Distance Impulse Number 7 (stock was 6). Couldn't select a higher number, VCDS reported 8 as out of range and that was the highest option available. The difference over an extended period of testing was only about 0.5 MPH closer to what two GPS units were reporting. Meh.
I bought a set of new take off wheels for my Golf. They came with factory fresh Bridgestone Ecopia 422 Plus tires. Anyway, these are the crappiest tires I've had in 30 years of driving as far as on center feel / tracking. Car demands constant attention to go perfectly straight on the highway...always wants to go slightly left or right. Going dead straight is total white knuckle territory.
