KONI Shock absorbers
azgli
Rating 5.0
  • Body bounce:
  • Bottoming:

I've been running them on my MK6 for about 40K miles. I'll never go back to standard shocks and struts. The adaptive dampening is a huge benefit on freeway drives since the expansion joints are completely removed from the ride. They are solid and planted for everyday driving and I've never felt the car was unstable.

Pros: adaptive dampening benefit
Cons: had to replace struts
Mileage: 64000 km

  • Body bounce:

I've been running stock springs with Koni Special Actives and an 034 rear sway bar on the softer setting. The Koni's have been perfect for my goals, but I do wish for slightly stiffer springs.

Pros: perfect for my goals
Cons: wish for stiffer springs

  • Body bounce:

The Golf R springs with Bilstein B6 dampers did moderately lower the wagon's body roll and, paradoxically, not really negatively affect ride quality from what I can tell.

Pros: lower body roll
Cons: turn in isn't as sharp
Mileage: 53000 km

I had a (similar) 2010 Golf 2.5 with B4s all around and they really can't be beat for the money. Slightly firmer ride than stock, nice handling, quite affordable.

Pros: nice handling, quite affordable
Cons: slightly firmer ride

  • Bottoming:

Got Bilstein coilovers Summer 2024, new socks mounts, the whole 9 yards...the other day I heard reaaly bad clanking thought maybe it was a bad sway bar end link...NOPE. Completely obliterated shock absorbers. They were brand new too.

Cons: completely obliterated shock absorbers
