So new Bosch plugs and red-top coils seemed worth the $109. Old spark plugs were pretty crusty, which made me feel better about doing it.

I don't trust brands like Monroe or Duralast, so I was going to order some Bilstein B4s ($65.00 each) and re-use my old springs.
That's interesting. I have a '21 S and I'm very satisfied with the headlights, they are not as quite as good as the Passat's but they are way better than my wife's Ford. Mine seem perfectly aimed, maybe yours are off a bit?
Ours are great, no complaints.
Some plain steelies and a set of Blizzaks are your friend.
I have 15s on my Jetta and run Bridgestone Blizzak WS-90s on it.
If you are going to use Prestone brand, then you'd want Violet color.
I typically use whatever is cheapest and proven oils for all my cars. I have an '08 2.5 and have been using T6 5w40, they typically run coupons for them for $20 or 25.00 for the gallon jug. No, it doesn't get VW's official stamp of approval but it seems to do pretty well in this application and seems quite popular amongst various other makes especially Euro cars that require a 40wt oil. Quite honestly, I'm pretty sure you can run a quality 5W30 in this motor, it is not anything special. I've run M1 0W-40 and although it has the VW spec labeled on it, my car always had a faint tick coming from the valve cover area (lifter?) when warm. It never did this with the T6 oil in it.
Misery loves company I know this thread is years old, but I thought I'd share my experience with my brand new 2017 Jetta SEL. We've had the vehicle for less than a week and it has less than 430 miles on it (bought it with 317 miles). Yesterday while sitting in a traffic jam due to a highway closure, my wife and I suddenly heard a loud boom. The rear window was completely shattered. We weren't moving, nor were any of the cars around us due to the highway closure.
A friend had a rebuilt bosch unit that he lent me to try and that too doesn't put out any voltage.
