I used: EBC Yellow Tuff Pads Stoptech Powerslot Rotors I painted the anti-squeal spring and caliper support bracket black, nothing too over the top.

Yes...to an extent but the biggest difference in braking performance will come from the pads you use. I like having slots because I feel it does help, especially in wet conditions to channel the water away for quicker bite.
I've fitted EBC yellow stuff pads (and standard VW discs), and I've found the braking performance to be amazing for road use. These pads were so much better than anything I've bought over the counter from VW.
having a vac at idle is NORMAL... its exactly how it was designed to be... vacuum is drawn on the head and block from the manifold via the PCV system... you test it by taking the pcv off and trying to force air through the valve. if it goes through, its busted... if it doesnt, then your fine.
@tbomb, that's old school thinking. You can easily change the gapping, just don't be retarded and slam a coin or something in there and start bashing away. lol
we did an AutoX last month and i even had the better times. they arent all they are cracked up to be.
I have settled on the Hps pads over red stuff. They both have good pedal feel, stopping power and fade resistance, but the deciding factor was the amount of dust they make. Red Stuff pads make nasty dust, but the Hawk pads are virtually dustless.

I had this issue with Hawk HPS, and had to tap on the brakes in heavy rain often. Have EBC Red now, they don't do this but they also don't stop the car well period.
dunno if same formula on Touareg pads, but they are HORRIBLE on my A4. They are low dust, but fade terribly - much worse than stock.
