On my eclipse gs sport I've put in a racing header and cold air intake, (although my tuner said the stock intake is actually better than any aftermarket stuff because of where the breather is located). I also had a custom exhaust made with magnaflow mufflers.

A new catalythic converter typically costs $350 (material + labor). I paid $650 to have both main cats replaced on a Mercedes, which had a 5 liter V8 (much bigger engine than your Kia Soul).
Old school 70s style muffler shop put a magnapack in place of the stock resonator and took off the muffler. $190 cash, nice deep growl but silent when cruising
MagnaFlow high flow cats are quality and inexpensive
For the muffler I just went with a simple round straight through style muffler from magnaflow.
I have a newer magnaflow on my DC2 and I have no check engine lights. I also have a magnaflow on my golf that replaced a hollowed cat and it kept the old car exhaust smell away for about 5 years before I could faintly smell it again.
the stock pipes with no cat, resonator and one magnaflow is a little too tame for my taste.
After my OE cat went 'can of marbles,' and after a similar dealer quote, I went with a Magnaflow high-flow cat. I've had a persistent P0420 since installing it (with 2.25" Remus exhaust), so have bought a 42dd spacer for the rear O2 sensor.
I definitely have an exhaust leak coming from the seam on the muffler where the sheet metal is wrapped around and overlaps itself. The exhaust in question is the magnaflow catback specifically for the MKIV R32.
just installed my 2.25 inch catback and my new dp+cat becuase i needed to replace it, i used a magnaflow high flow cat with a tt with borla muffler catback, i went to put in my 02 sensor but found out the threads were damaged so it wouldnt go in, so i just put in the plug that came in the 02 hole on the cat and started it up becuase i wanted to hear how it sounds, and quite frankly it sounds awful, much louder than expected, rev sounds awful and comes back down to idle with numerous backfires.
