I’m going with genuine BMW hoses and MAHLE fuel filter hoping this time it lasts and nothing rips

The mahle looks more like a traditional fuel filter.
I had an e90 with the n52 engine. When i first got the car i installed a Mahle filter that fit. After a bit of driving the engine started making weird noises, similar to vacum leaks. And I did som research. Apperantly my experiance was common with "aftermarket" oil filters. Switched to Mann filter on my next oil change, specificaly the same variant as the right one in your picture. The problem disappeared instantly. Also the Mahle filter had kind of colapsed in on itself.
If you want hotter with a thermostat the exact same shape as the genuine VW version, get the Mahle TX1392D. 92 C opening temperature. Keeps the engine warmer and you get a little better fuel economy.
I have no problem with using a Bosch, MAN, Mahle as long as it’s a good brand.
put a mahle radiator (this is the original brand for the radiator on e46) and very satisfied with that.
I replaced my newly bought Wahler t-stat with my old Mahle but drilled. Temps stays 80-87c.
I’ve been using Germany-made Mahle thermostat for years. Now it throws a code that the heater doesn’t work (so it won’t open electrically, but mechanically it is working just fine), but no leaks.
I replaced it with a Mahle VS50515, put a very thin layer of oil on it so it doesn't bind, cleaned all the bolts, and torqued them down to 10Nm using the bolt pattern in the earlier post. 2 weeks later, it's starting to seep all around. The gasket doesn't look like it's seated properly, with some places clearly not straight
i got a mahle premium line cap which instantly broke on me not releasing air causing the hoses to get squished, put on the old one and that fixed it.
